Meet & Meat

October 2017
As its name suggests, Meet & Meat is a restaurant where people can meet - gather together - and enjoy their meat. A lunchtime the restaurant offers the hungry working crowd in Modiin’s Ligad hi-tech industrial zone nutritious fixed price meat lunches. By night Meet & Meat becomes a pleasant dinner venue close to home – if home is Modiin and its environs.

Gone the hustle and bustle. Candles and wine glasses are set on the tables. Wine bottles that were on the shelves during the day suddenly glisten in the candle light. Dine indoors or, weather permitting, on the outdoor patio. This is not a fast filler-up. The evening meal is to be savored. Service is relaxed and friendly.

eLuna Revisited Meet & Meat Restaurant. February 2018

eLuna revisited Meet & Meat Restaurant to see what everyone was talking about. We arrived at 6pm, just as the restaurant was setting up for dinner. We were received by the friendly receptionist, and introduced to Dar, the chef and family member. Dar has travelled extensively and picked up recipes and cooking techniques from all over the world. He has adapted the recipes for the Israeli palate and for kashrut.

As we were a party of three with widely different food preferences, which gave us the opportunity to try different aspects of the menu. Our meal started with the house bread, fresh from the oven, a large fluffy loaf, served with olives, a salsa of crushed tomatoes and garlic, salad and a dish of mayonnaise.  Our major meat eater selected the Asado platter from the main course menu. This was a huge portion (450 grams) of slow-barbecued beef on the bone, accompanied by grilled potatoes and a large bowl of green salad with cherry tomatoes. Eating this amount of barbecue on the bone was a challenge. The meat was soft and tasty, and went well with the chimichurri and bread with tabbouleh or mayonnaise. The Jems 8.8 beer was a fine accompaniment to the meat.

Our young but unadventurous student chose from the separate hamburger menu, which has multiple options and variations of that venerable fare. He had the small hamburger (220 grams is small here) with lettuce, tomato and smoked goose breast, accompanied by a generous portion of thick home fries. He turned down the less familiar options like fried onions, sunny-side up egg, or candied pineapple.

A non-meat eater among us was satisfied with the carpaccio of eggplant and tahina. This, with the bread, the tabbouleh salad and the green salad, made a full and satisfying meal. It is always curious to see the style that each restaurant chooses for the grilled eggplant dish. At Meet & Meat the eggplant is scooped out of the skin and served dressed, on a large platter.

The three of us shared desert, a large wedge of hot chocolate cake covered with chocolate cake. Our young companion was the only one still hungry enough to eat most of it.

About The Meet & Meat Menu

When they say "meat" they are serious, as this is the primary item on the menu. The Meet & Meat best seller dishes are on "The Meat Experience" section of the menu. For a flat price of 130 shekels per person (minimum of 2 people) each diner gets a sequence of from Asado on the bone, chicken breast, Entrecote and Mullard served with bread, spreads, fresh vegetables and grilled potatoes. For a small fee you can add another 100 grams of any of the meats. That's a deal. It is also a lot of food.

If burgers are your thing, try the burger platter, which includes salad and chips, is available in large and extra large. Feel free to add on fried onions, smoked goose breast and/or a sunny-side up egg.

The menu continues with a good selection of starters and main courses. Who could pass up 18 wings in chili and peanut butter sauce (which substitutes for dairy ingredients in other regions), veal carpaccio, or the vegetarian tabbouleh salad in herbs. There is an impressive list of main courses not included in "The Experience." Pargit, fish & chips, and veal medallions. Several sandwiches are also available. Top of the line for the really hungry folks, is 450 grams of asado on the bone.

For people who simply are not in the mood to overdose on meat, there is carpaccio of eggplant with tahina. The lunch menu includes fish and chips or a smoked salmon sandwich with vegetables and garlic sauce.

Meet & Meat knows which drinks go with meat. There are wines and liquors from the bar, and then there are the soft drinks, colas, cider, and seltzer along with 5 types of beer, on tap and in bottles.

We recommend Meet & Meat as a good meat alternative in a town that abounds in kosher dairy choices. Let us know your opinion.

Submitted by judy rosenstark. Date: 8/8/2018 Description: We went to Meet and Meat this week for my son's birthday. I was bit concerned when we arrived and the place was empty but it surpassed all our expectations. It is simple and unadorned but the place was very very clean and whatever we ordered was DELICIOUS!

The bread and dips were fresh and just right. Our son ordered steak Entrecote and home fries and he was not disapointed! We shared the 'Chavayat Bsarim" which came with an excellent fresh salad and tabolieh, dips, Assado with roast potatoes,(that smelled and tasted out of this world), Chicken breast (we are not big fans in general of chicken breast because it always seems dry to us but this was delicious, perfectly well done but not at all dry!) entrecote which was perfectly done and mullard. we did not want the mullard (the resteraunt, while not 'mehadrin' serves mostly chalak meats, but the mullard was not mehadrin so we asked if we could substitute something else that was. The manager eager to please, offered to make us mini hamburgers instead. They were crisp and juicy, exactly as they should be. Instead of bringing all the meat at once (which we normally see when ordering a platter of this type) they brought out one at a time and timed it perfectly so each meat was brought out just off the grill.

They brought us coffee on the house, and My son celebrated his birthday with hot choclate cake (and a sparkler) which was delcious as well. The service was excellent and we had a great time! I have no idea why the place was so empty but we HIGHLY recommend it!
